We come to you! Let us walk you through the basics of pistol use and safety from the comfort of your home or office, away from the anxiety that often comes from a first trip to the range. Learn how to operate different types of pistols and make each one of them safe with real firearms and hands-on experience (but no ammunition). We'll cover all the basics--how to operate, aim, fire, and handle a pistol. No shooting in this class--the goal is to get you comfortable with knowing how to handle a gun safely, and then you can take the next step of going to the range on another day.
Another way this class is different than others is our focus on the law. Although we do not provide legal advice, Jared is a board-certified appellate lawyer who can inform as to general laws and processes. With advance notice, we can even offer CLE for attorneys taking this class.
Groups are encouraged and fun! Make an afternoon of it by including spouses, friends, or adult children ages 21 and up.
First Range Lesson (1-2 hours, up to 4 people): $150 per person

After the In-House Safety Class, we can take the next step at the range. We're not oblivious to how intimidating the range can be, which is why we'll walk you through every step, safely. At no time will you be in a situation where you're unsure of where to be or what to do.

On the firing line, you'll get to use several different firearms of different actions, calibers, and styles. We can change between them based on your comfort level and ability. By the end of this class, you'll feel confident that you can handle and use a firearm safely.

Groups of up to four are encouraged here.
Registration for this class is limited to those who have already taken the PHP In-House Safety Class or a similar firearm safety class, or are retired military or law enforcement.

Scarlett is our micro .380 concealed carry pistol of choice. Extremely small and light, Scarlett easily fits in a pocket holster and all but disappears in an inside-the-waistband holster. Tiny guns are often difficult to shoot, and Scarlett sure is tiny (see the black business card for scale), but Scarlett is surprisingly manageable. And while .380 caliber rounds are sometimes considered merely marginal for self-defense, having 10 rounds makes Scarlett more than sufficient.

Carl is a classic J-Frame revolver, one of a family of pistols that were once regularly carried by law enforcement as secondary pistols. This one in particular is an Airweight, meaning it has an aluminum frame to shave some ounces. Carl is lightweight, small, and mechanically bulletproof (no pun intended). While those features make Carl an easy gun to conceal, his diminutive nature makes him a handful (ugh, another non-pun) to shoot accurately without lots of practice.

Kate is from S&W's M&P (Military & Police) series, which is often used by law enforcement agencies around the country. She's chambered in 9mm, which is a great balance of shootability and power. 9mm is also so widely available that it is the cheapest round to purchase for self-defense purposes. Kate is a smooth operator--steadfastly reliable and dead-on accurate--with just the right weight to make recoil a breeze. A great home defense or all-around gun.

Alice is... a mixed bag. A semi-auto .22LR with a 10 round capacity that makes target practice a piece of cake. But Alice is also obnoxious to break down, even more annoying to put back together, and malfunctions when the rounds aren't seated in the magazine just so. That said, for all of my complaining, Alice is the gun I chose for my marksmanship qualification to become a certified NRA pistol instructor.

Annie is a modern take on an old-school gunslinger. She's single action only, so you have to (or you get to) cock the hammer with each shot. There's not much to go wrong, and .22LR is so cheap that you can shoot all day without a care. She has a long sight radius and no recoil to speak of, so she's perfect for beginners. And she looks great in her aftermarket rosewood grips.

Pam is a beast. A big, heavy, brute of a gun. With .38 Special rounds, her weight and length practically eliminate recoil and make her a sharpshooter. But she can also take the hottest of .357 Magnum rounds and blow fire out the muzzle. While she only packs 6 rounds (like many revolvers), Pam can still be a good home defense gun. She has plenty of power, and would certainly be an intimidating sight to an unsuspecting intruder.
